​I've had women sit across from me, take a deep breath and say something like,
​“You're going to think I'm a terrible person, but this is bad.”

Then they start telling me what's really going on:

"We make too much money for it to be this tight.”

“I have no idea where our money is going.”

“I pay on the credit cards, but the balances just keep going up.”

“We need a new vehicle, but I don't know how we're going to afford one.”

“My kids' expenses just keep adding up. It's something all the time.”

“I don't have an emergency fund, and that scares me.”

Or sometimes it's simply,

“I don't even know where to start.”

I've heard some version of these conversations over and over through the years, and I want to ask you something today.
